Billing Statements

You may receive multiple bills for the visit depending on the services provided. For example, bills for lab testing will be separate from the physician’s bill.

Referrals and Authorizations

Many insurance plans require that your primary care physician provide a referral. Each plan is different, and it is your responsibility to know the requirements for your plan. We are happy to help you get a referral but you may be responsible for payment, or the appointment may need to be rescheduled if the referral is not received. Most insurance companies also require prior authorization for specific services, including some procedures or some medications. We will work with your insurance company to get authorization; however, the process can take up to 10 business days. We may need to reschedule your appointment until authorization is provided.

Cancellations

Cancellations for your surgical procedure are coordinated through your physician’s office. If you have to cancel your surgery, please contact your physician’s office, and his or her staff will coordinate with our team here at Sterling Surgical Hospital to assure the proper steps are followed.

Hospital Price Transparency

You have reached the federally required section of our website that contains the charges for the services we provide within our facility. While we provide this information to comply with federal regulations, healthcare billing is complex. It is extremely important for you, as the consumer, to understand that standard charges may not be a relevant starting point for estimating what costs you may incur during an episode of care, and the amount actually paid by a patient will depend on that patient’s insurance coverage, policy provisions and other factors.

Everyone’s case is different based on that patient’s medical condition.

The charges linked below only include hospital charges and do not include charges that are billed separately by the physician or other professional fees. Furthermore, the actual amount paid by a patient will depend on the patient’s insurance coverage, as benefit plans very greatly.

 IF YOU HAVE COMMERCIAL INSURANCE:

Contact your insurance company to understand all of the factors affecting your financial responsibility.

Numerous factors, such as type of plan, co-pay, co-insurance, deductible, out-of-pocket maximums, provider network and other limitations, will affect your financial responsibility to a hospital.

The prices reflected on this site do not include charges for the physician or other professional fees, such as diagnostic imaging, anesthesia or lab work.

The prices reflected on this site do not include any negotiated discounts between your insurance company and the hospital.

 IF YOU HAVE MEDICARE:

Medicare has many different parts, and not everyone has the same type of Medicare coverage. Medicare will pay for many of your healthcare expenses but not all of them.

Special rules apply if you have employer group health insurance coverage through your job

If you have a supplemental health insurance policy, it may cover some costs that Medicare does not cover.

The best way to be sure of what your Medicare plan covers is to call 1-800-MEDICARE, or visit the website at www.mymedicare.gov.

IF YOU HAVE MEDICAID:

Contact your local Medicaid office at 1-888-544-7996, or visit the Louisiana Department of Health to determine all the factors affecting your financial responsibility.

Generally, Medicaid recipients are not responsible for any portion of the bill.

 IF YOU ARE UNINSURED:

Please contact our Patient Navigator at (985) 690-8200 to obtain a price quote for your scheduled service.

As required by the Affordable Care Act (ACA), hospitals have a written financial assistance policy that includes eligibility criteria, the basis for calculating charges and the method for applying for financial assistance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I have visitors?

We have an open visitation policy, which means that visitors are welcome at any time. If someone is staying at the hospital while you are having an outpatient procedure, we will update them along the way so they are informed of your progress. If your procedure requires an overnight stay, each room is furnished to allow one family member or friend (16 years of age or older) to spend the night with you. If you do not wish to have visitors, notify the staff and we will limit the number of visitors and the time they are allowed to visit.

Can I send flowers or a gift to a patient?

Any mail, flowers, or packages should be addressed to the patient and will be delivered to their room. Any deliveries that are received after the patient is discharged will be forwarded to their home.

Does the hospital have a cafeteria?

While Sterling Surgical Hospital does not have a full-service cafeteria on-site, we are happy to provide as many dietary amenities as possible to our guests. All of our overnight patients are provided with dietitian approved meals during their stay with us. For our visitors and guests, Sterling Surgical Hospital has coffee, teas, bottled water and soft drinks (upon request) as well as snacks throughout our waiting rooms and lobby areas. If these amenities do not meet your needs, our reception staff will be happy to get you information on other dietary options in the area.

Does the hospital have a gift shop?

We do not have a gift shop inside our hospital.

What makes a physician owned hospital unique?

Our physicians are directly involved in all aspects of the delivery of patient care. We provide amenities such as private rooms, family accommodations, a quiet and relaxing environment, specialized treatment for procedures, and an accessible and attentive nursing staff. We believe in providing high quality care in a patient-centered environment. This can be measured by indicators such as staff specialization, clinical staff per patient, low infection rates, low complication rates, and patient satisfaction.

A list of physician ownership is displayed publicly in the hospital as well as can be made available to any patient or guest upon request.

Does the hospital offer WiFi access?

Yes, as a courtesy to our guests, we provide free WiFi access. Ask the receptionist for the access information.

How do I call a patient room?

Family and friends may contact our patient rooms through our main hospital line at 985.690.8200.

How can I find out how much I will pay for my procedure?

Health care billing is complex, but we strive to be as transparent and efficient in our billing as possible so you the consumer is as educated and aware of your responsibility as possible.

Sterling Surgical Hospital's chargemaster is a list of all items and services including the associated charge which is used to produce the bill for your visit at Sterling Surgical Hospital. However, it is important to understand that your insurance plan and many other factors will determine your actual financial responsibility when utilizing any health care provider and utilization of a facility's chargemaster is not the best tool to divine your responsibility for your care.

The chargemaster only includes hospital charges and does not include charges that are billed separately by the physician or other professional fees. Furthermore, the actual amount paid by a patient will depend on the patient’s insurance coverage, as benefit plans very greatly. This is why we encourage all Sterling Surgical Hospital patients to consult their insurance provider with any questions regarding your benefits.

We encourage you to visit Sterling Surgical Hospital's average cost per procedure document linked here, as it can show a patient a more comprehensive pricing guide for Sterling Surgical Hospital top procedures and ancillary services.

Additionally, Sterling Surgical Hospital has an expert team that would be happy to talk you about your specific procedure or surgery, your insurance benefits, and what your personal responsibility maybe. To talk to someone on the Sterling Surgical team call 985.690.8200.

When do I find out what time I need to arrive?

Prior to your scheduled surgery, our nursing staff will contact you with your anticipated arrival time for the day of your procedure. This contact is made generally two to three days prior to your day of surgery. However, this schedule is variable and can sometimes change. In this case, you will receive a call from our nursing staff to update you on any changes made to your schedule. If you do not hear from our staff in within twenty-four (24) hours of your surgery, please contact the hospital at 985.690.8200 and we will get you all the information you need.
