Getting Started
Patient Information
Undergoing a surgical procedure can be an overwhelming experience, and it’s natural to feel a mix of emotions leading up to your visit. At Sterling Surgical, our dedicated team is committed to providing compassionate, patient-centered care to ensure your comfort and peace of mind throughout the process. While we strive to create a smooth and stress-free experience, there are a few steps you can take to help make your visit as seamless and positive as possible.
Proper preparation not only helps ease anxiety but also contributes to a successful procedure and recovery. From understanding pre-surgical instructions to arranging post-operative care, a little planning can go a long way in ensuring the best possible outcome.
Here are a few important tips to keep in mind before your procedure.
Before You Arrive
Registration
Our dedicated registration staff, under the direction of our Patient Navigator, will contact you before your procedure to discuss benefit verification and potential co-pay estimates. If you have not been contacted within 2-3 days before your procedure, you may call our Registration department at (985) 690-8200 with any questions or concerns.
If you have an advance directive, living will or health proxy completed, please bring these documents with you to the hospital. If you do not have one, information is available upon request at the time of your admission.
Confidential Information
We are committed to confidentiality concerning personal and medical information which we will need in order to provide you with the best health care possible. If you have special needs for confidentiality, please let our staff know as soon as possible.
Our Medical Records department will require your authorization for release of any medical records, except in the case of transfer to another health care facility, or as required by law or third party payment contract.
During Your Stay
No Smoking Policy
Sterling Surgical Hospital is a smoke free campus. Among many healthcare and other public facilities in our community, we feel the prohibition of smoking on our campus is in the best interest of our patients, children, visitors, and staff members. We hope that you and your guests appreciate our decision to create a healthier environment for all and recognize the significance in your compliance with our campus policy. Smoking is prohibited anywhere on our property or any properties directly adjacent to our campus.
Valuables
Please be mindful that our hospital serves many patients, and we cannot be responsible for personal belongings left unattended in the lobby or patient rooms. We strongly advise against bringing cash, credit cards, jewelry, or other valuable personal items. For your convenience and safety, eyeglasses, contact lenses, and dentures should be stored in protective containers when not in use. Your cooperation helps ensure a secure and comfortable environment for all patients.
Meals
We believe that exceptional care goes beyond medical treatment—it includes a dining experience that nourishes both the body and soul. Under the expert guidance of our Executive Chef, overnight patients enjoy gourmet meals thoughtfully prepared with fresh, high-quality ingredients. Each breakfast, lunch, and dinner is carefully crafted to be both delicious and nutritionally balanced, bringing comfort and satisfaction to every bite.
Understanding that every patient has unique dietary needs, our culinary team is happy to accommodate food allergies, special preferences, or dietary restrictions. If our menu selections don’t appeal to you, our friendly receptionist can provide recommendations for nearby restaurants to ensure you have a variety of dining options. Your comfort and well-being are our top priorities—both in your care and at the table.
Communications
Your comfort and connectivity are our top priorities during your stay. Each patient room is equipped with an easy-to-use communication system, allowing you to reach the nurses’ station at any time for assistance, ensuring that your needs are met promptly and with care.
Staying in touch with loved ones is just as important to your well-being. To make local phone calls, simply dial "9" followed by the local number. Family and friends can reach you directly by calling our front desk at 985.690.8200, where our team will gladly connect them to your room. Whether you need support from our attentive staff or a reassuring call from home, we are here to keep you comfortable and connected.
Mail and Flowers
We know that thoughtful gestures from loved ones can brighten a patient’s day, which is why mail, flowers, and packages are personally delivered with care. Each delivery brings a touch of warmth and encouragement, creating a comforting and uplifting environment during recovery.
If a delivery arrives after a patient has been discharged, it will be forwarded directly to their home. No thoughtful gift or kind message will go unnoticed—we take special care to make sure every patient feels supported, even after they leave our care.
Visitors
We believe that support from loved ones plays a vital role in the healing process, which is why we offer an open visitation policy—welcoming visitors at any time. If a family member or friend is staying at the hospital while you undergo an outpatient procedure, our team will provide regular updates to keep them informed about your progress, offering peace of mind during your care.
For patients requiring an overnight stay, each private and spacious room is thoughtfully designed to accommodate comfort and companionship. A sleeper sofa is available, allowing one guest (16 years of age or older) to spend the night by your side.
Your well-being is our priority, and we understand that rest and recovery are essential. If you prefer limited visitation, simply let our staff know, and we will adjust visitor access to support your needs. Whether surrounded by loved ones or enjoying a quiet space to heal, we are here to make your stay as comfortable and personalized as possible.
